Knitting Machines and more

Ideal for the home machine knitter!
Picture
I don't hand knit and barely know how to crochet. So I purchased my first Silver Reed Knitting Machine and
Design-a-Knit 8 (DAK8) in 2012 to use the wonderful yarn from my alpacas. The collection of machines has grown - up to FIVE machines in regular use! I am an authorized Silver Reed dealer and I spend much of my spare time designing, knitting and introducing the wonderful world of machine knitting via teaching! Contact me for pricing and model availability. I very occasionally have used machines available as well.

The basics

The basic premise of knitting machine is that each stitch / needle becomes a chain stitch, much like crocheting! But many needles are in work one after the other so it goes much faster than knitting by hand!

Knitting Machines

There are three main sizes of knitting machines. Since one can't change the size of the needle as in hand knitting, different machines work with different weight yarns.
  • Standard gauge. 200 needles 4.5 mm apart. Punch card or electronic. Optional ribber, color changer and lace carriages available.
  • Mid-gauge, 150 needles 6.5 mm apart
  • Bulky: 110 needles, 9 mm apart. Punch card.
